Night Spins Pick Up Dates To Support Rainbow Kitten Surprise on Spring 2019 Tour

#TheMusicMatters has been #radiosilent way too long. However today, we got news of something so incredible we could not keep quiet any longer. This blogger has made no secret of their love for Rainbow Kitten Surprise. Not only are they one of the fastest rising indie bands on the scene right now but, we’ve also enjoyed how intensely they curate their support groups. This particular announcement hit close to home as #RKS chose Night Spins to support them on nine dates of the upcoming #Spring2019 tour. These will include May 24th at White Eagle Hall as well as the Wilmington,Asheville, and Raleigh dates where RKS will be raising #relieffunds for victims of #hurricaneflorence. We’ve been following #NightSpins since late 2017 and they’ve been featured prominently in previous blogs on this page. To them we offer hearty congrats and to RKS we offer #kudos on picking such a fine group to support them on their Spring adventures

Presents
SCR
9-22-2018

#LivefromDinner is a double curation entity. What they do is curate a music event, then curate a tasting menu based on the band’s collective palates. For this evening Chef Tevaughn White designed the menu.

As you know this blogger has been a #superfan of #SCRtheband for some time now. We feel they are #primedandready with the songs and stage presence for #biggerandbetterthings. Last night’s second installment of Live From Dinner certainly was no exception is proving that.

The evening began with the flow of rapper #Marcaux. We couldn’t find any social media on him but, keep a look out. The man has a story to tell, with the skills to deliver.

Next up our inspiration for the evening’s menu SCR (You may remember them as #SirCadianRhythm). They had never performed as an acoustic act before, but you certainly couldn’t tell from their performance. Jack (vocals),Alex (guitar),Matt(Trombone,Keys,Melodica), Micah(Drums,Beard) and Richie (Bass) delighted a #packedhouse with regular tunes from their repertoire as well as hints of new material from their upcoming album to be recorded this Fall. Also dropped was the news that they will be performing on The Rock Boat, a floating #musicfestival in Feb 2019.

Please #follow Live From Dinner, SCR on social media. Find Marcaux and Chef Tevaughn to advise us of links. #sharing and #commentsappreciated

Night Spins
Album Review
Release date June 8th 2018

This blogger has been anxiously awaiting the release of the debut album from the #NightSpins for some time now. Recommended to us by music curator/promoter Pamnation, we had a chance to catch them live at Rockwood Music Hall on November 17, 2017. Known then by their former moniker #TheBoobies they drove the #crowdedhouse into a frenzy supported by boisterous bubble blowing fans (say that 3X fast).

Anticipating the release of their first full length disc, we could not wait any longer and began streaming as soon as it was available yesterday morning on Spotify. The band rocks us and rolls us through ten tunes with their unique mix of old school garage with modern day indie pop sounds. Start with Tell Me I’m Wrong and Hard To See,keep on going until you hear Beach Party and Breakfast For Three. #Allkillernofiller here.

When can I see them again live? Oh wait, how about tonight June 9th, 2018 at The Bowery Electric !!! Yes, The Music Matters will be there !!! #seeyouthere

All Types of Kinds – Bowery on the LES of NYC – Monday March 5th, 2018

All Types of Kinds
Bowery on the LES of NYC
Monday March 5th, 2018

There are countless thousands of bands performing around the world seeking fame, fortune and everything that goes with it. Every once in a while though, you run into a group who does it simply because The Music Matters. This blogger witnessed that first hand last evening on the #LES of #NYC.

Due to a scheduling #snafu at a mainstream nightclub we traveled downtown from #Pleasantville too late to see #AllTypesofKinds perform. The band had never met us, did not know of our blogging, or even our name. Only that we had traveled a distance to see them. At their absolute insistence, they #tooktothestreets and performed an impromptu set which delighted not only this blogger, but attracted the attention of folks passing by as well.

For those not in the know, #ATOK is a 4 piece multi-talented group who’s roots expand all over the NYC area.Their mix of Alternative/Folk and Hip Hop is unique. The band is harmony rich, with flowing melody. They are certainly fine tunesmiths as well. They will perform as a full on #rockband or as a stripped down #acousticact. Their catalog of original material is extensive. Festival and tour promoters take notice as these folks (as proven last night) can certainly entertain any audience any time, anywhere

Please follow this outstanding combo live, on social media and always remember #themusicmatters

Fabled Hoboken music venue Maxwell’s to close…..again….

Fabled Hoboken music venue Maxwell’s to close…..again….

This blogger feels the challenge with the “New Maxwell’s” was the disparaging remarks the owners made about the music. Had they respected the history of the fabled back room and concentrated on making the front the best restaurant possible, they could have retained it’s mystique as well as provided a future for The Hoboken Sound

The Happy Fits – KGB Bar & Lit Mag – Red Door Sessions 1-12-2018

The Happy Fits
KGB Bar & Lit Mag
Red Door Sessions
1-12-2018

There are three elements of music.#melody,#harmony,#rhythm. So when folks get together to start a rock band they put it together with vocals, guitar, drums, cello…Stop! Cello? What’s that doing here? Electric Light Orchestrafans as well as Jeff Lynne will certainly tell you that’s nothing new however, it’s role in the happenstance formed #thehappyfits is quite unique. The Happy Fits are Luke Davis ( vocals, drums), Ross Monteith ( vocals, guitar), and Calvin Langman (vocals, cello). Starting in the Summer of 2016 to raise money for local charities while they were planning college, music in their life had other ideas. When their tune “While You Fade Away” exploded on Spotify gave them recognition, they had no choice but to go #fullthrottle with the combo.. First brought to the attention of The Music Matters by curator/promoter Pamnation who suggested (ok demanded) we view their performance this past week on Paste Music & Daytrotter live in studio feed. Astonished, we had to head into #NYC last night to see them as they were performing their first #reddoorsessions show at #kgbbar on W4th st.

The house was packed, and the entire audience seemed to know not just the lyrics but the clap and stomp routine to follow as we all rollicked through the 45 minute set. This blogger had the chance to meet and greet with all the members before and after the show. They were quite engaging to speak with and of course made us so #happy we had #fits. We look forward to watching this young band grow and wish them much #success. Please feel free to #comment and of course #follow them on social media, #share with friends too!

Rainbow Kitten Surprise – Rough Trade NYC – 12-5-2017 – SOLD OUT

Rainbow Kitten Surprise
Rough Trade NYC
12-5-2017 SOLD OUT

Thanks to quick fingers (show was sold out in record time when tickets become available online) The Music Matters was able to attend a unique #livemusic event last evening at #RoughTrade in #Brooklyn#RainbowKittenSurprise has been a fixture on the main stages of major festivals of late in addition to their growing legion of fans creating sell outs at the majority of their club dates. Last night, being their first NY appearance of 2017 (and last of any kind for the year) was no exception. As noted in previous blogs, we became aware of #RKS through music curator/promoter Pamnation as the band was THE number one recommendation from them.

Rolling into town with support and guidance from their long time road manager Rachel McKinney (known to followers and fans as the #RKSMomanger) the native to Boone,NC band members are:

Sam Melo – Vocalist, poetic lyricist, rhythm guitars, keyboard

Darrick “Bozzy” Keller – Colorful rhythm guitar, vocals

Ethan Goodpaster, – Searing lead guitar, vocals

Charlie Holt -Rhythmic,harmonic,melodic bass, vocals

Jess Haney – Sharp and accurate syncopation behind the kit

Unique features of this band include their camaraderie on stage as well as their delivery of the tunes as if to say “This music is our gift to you. Please enjoy”. Self described as Indie/Alternative this blogger has also heard the description “You’ll hear rock/blues/folk/country/pop/alternative and that’s just in their first song ! ” .Whatever label you’d like to give it, their tunes certainly resonate with fans who sing along word for word with every verse, chorus and chant (drummer Jess Haney kindly offered to coach the refrain of Mr. Redundant. The fans knew very well what to do).The group name truly uncommon and special. Fans and band enjoy playing with it. Even describing their merchandise as #RainbowKittenSupplies .

With an enthusiastically packed house (including a huge contingent of the #Pamnation)The band rolled through a 90 minute set consisting of favorites such as Devil Like Me, Goodnight Chicago, Seven, and First Class. They also provided an audience thirsting for more with two well deserved encores beginning with Cocaine Jesus. New material was debuted as well. The band promising an album was fully recorded and on the horizon for release.

Only news so far for 2018 is a first trip for the band overseas to perform in London in March. We have to believe a national tour is in the works in conjunction with the new music for our consumption. How high on the #Rainbow will these #Kittens fly? Nothing would #Surprise#TheMusicMatters. We recommend you #follow them closely on #socialmedia and on their #website to keep abreast with future activities of this #risingtothetop band

Please feel free to #share#comment#suggest

New Talent Find! – Naked Giants – Rough Trade NYC – 11-19-2017

New Talent Find!
Naked Giants
Rough Trade NYC
11-19-2017

Ron Gallo is well known with music fans as a #favorite from #Philly. With his appearance at #roughtrade not to be missed, The Music Matters ended up running into an unexpected treat as warm up for the main attraction. Opening act #nakedgiants are an exuberant #rocktothemax trio consisting of Gianni Aiello (bass, vocals), Grant Mullen (guitar.vocals) and Henry LaVallee (drums). Hailing from Seattle, WA they reminded this blogger of everything from Devo to The B-52’s, to The Kinks, to The White Stripes and even The Black Lips. Their non-stop frenzied set was truly explosive which left us wanting more.  Professional industry promoter/live music curator Pamnation was in attendance as well and appeared equally impressed. Keep your eye on these Miscreant Records recording artists. Follow them #ontour and on #socialmedia. Kudos to #RonGallo not only for capping off the evening with a devastating set of his own but, for discovery and support of this #risingtothetop combo

The #LowerEastSide of Manhattan is certainly a hotbed breeding ground for musical talent. With The Music Matters thirsting for #livemusic after a slowed schedule, last evening most definitely quenched that for us with a triple potpourri of musical excellence

First last evening was #WillEvans at Rockwood Music Hall. This blogger first noticed him at the CONNartists clubhouse show a few months ago. Formally frontman of Barefoot Truth, to call Will a #singersongwriter is a bit of an understatement. A #mastercraftsman of tune might be a better fit. Joined last night with percussionist extraordinaire Doug Fitch (http://www.dougfitchpercussion.com/), Will built his special wall of sound using guitar, vocal, as well as dirigadoo loops that encompassed a wide variety of harmony and rhythm for him to bring melody to. While his roots are firm in Westerly, RI he does find himself on tour quite often as evidenced with his recent shows supporting Carbon Leaf. Make sure to experience his unique #tunesmith skills when he’s in your town and most definitely follow him on social media

Next, #themusicmatters wandered around the corner to revisit #TheAlpacaGnomes at #ArlenesGrocery. First seen by this blogger at the 2017 Pleasantville Music Festival on the #PamnationPartyStage the Gnomes and their #Gnomies never disappoint in bringing the party to a higher level. We got the feeling that the band and their loyal followers would have enjoyed a longer set. We certainly would have as we have enjoyed them three times since their July festival appearance. If I were you, I’d set my sites on their schedule for future events as they will warm your insides even on a cool Fall evening such as yesterday.

Last stop for the night found us returning to the #sceneofthecrime where we started at #RockwoodMusicHall. Earlier this year music curator/promoter Pamnation had advised #themusicmatters that #TheBoobies were a must see when in town. We jumped at the chance yesterday. The group, local to NY consists of Josh Brocki (guitars, vocals) Manquillan Minniefee (lead guitar) Jesse Starr (bass) and Ace Jernigan (drums). Self described as “Garage Rock with teeth” the band is all that and much more. Exuberant fans making #bubbles throughout their set is obviously a trademark of their followers. We feel the old school garage rhythms mixed with modern vocal/guitar #wallofsound methods make this combo foursome unique.

Please #share #comment and most of all #follow these fine groups #ontour , #inyourtown and on #socialmedia. Most of all #support #live #indiemusicwhenever you can

SOLD OUT – Rainbow Kitten Surprise – Rough Trade NYC 12-5-2017

Rainbow Kitten Surprise is a #bandontherise . The Music Matters has called your attention to this band many times. In an #ifyousnoozeyoulose minute every ticket in what will most likely be their last live show of 2017 was sold. Pamnation called this blogger’s attention (as well as the legions of #pamnation followers) to the event so, our fingers were ready at the stroke of noon to grab a pair of these sought after spots to witness what may be (in our opinion) one of the last times they perform in this size venue. After selling out the last 14 shows of 2016, as well as many this year the only way to catch the band live was to join the many tens of thousands who enjoyed them on the main stage of most of the major festivals this year (LouFest Music FestivalFirefly Music FestivalBonnaroo Music and Arts FestivalAustin City Limits Music Festival (ACL) among others). #Catchthemifyoucanas while these Rainbow Kittens may Surprise, they’re certainly no secret to their growing legion of fans

Music curator/promoter Pamnation advised us on these up and coming rockers from #Atlanta earlier this year. #Thegeorgiaflood are Brooks Mason (lead guitar/vocals), Lane Kelly (bass/vocals), Damian Navarro (drums) and Gavin Deleshaw-(lead guitar). What these young men do is take various genres such as Blues/Rock etc and create their own unique driving harmonious groove. This can be evidenced in songs such as Take A Hit (their latest), The Race, and our current favorite Whistle King. A full house heard these and more at #arlenesgrocery in #NYC. This band of up and coming showmen showed us lots of maturity in the timing and execution of their songs as well as their stage presence. #industryprofessionals#takenotice as inside information tells me their soon to be released recordings are very strong and the band is weighing options. We will be keeping a close eye on these #risingstars and wish them much #futuresuccess

Monogold – Rough Trade NYC – 9-23-2017

Monogold
Rough Trade NYC
9-23-2017

On September 29th, their new LP, “Babyfood” will be released. Get it!. #Monogold first came to the attention of The Music Matters early this year at the recommendation of music curator/promoter Pamnation who had recognized their talent and has been sharing their music with all who will listen (as you should be). While exhausted from attending an exhilarating house party in NJ earlier in the evening, this blogger had no choice but to still wander in to Brooklyn and see this group at #RoughTradeNYC.

Formed in 2006 in Brooklyn, members are guitarist-vocalist Keith Kelly, bassist Mike Falotico and drummer Jared Apuzzo. Described as #Psychedelic#IndiePop they performed a raucous non-stop 45 minute set to a plentiful audience who danced and sang throughout. All to make #TheMusicMatters wonder, why isn’t this band featured on main stages of festivals? They certainly would fit in many. Our gut tells us this combo will continue as Andy Warhol would suggest – ‎”Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide whether it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they’re deciding, keep making more art.” We’ve decided to vote #love on how we feel about the group’s music. Please make sure to #follow this band on #socialmedia and of course #ontour.

Feel free to #comment#share, and #suggest

Hollis Brown – Don DiLego – Live @ Drew’s – 9-23-2017

House shows have become an integral part of today’s live music scene. They can provide a special experience in an intimate setting. Usually the most hardcore of the artist’s fan base are there mixed in with house show local music lovers. Last night The Music Matters ventured into Ringwood, NJ for just such an event.

Hollis Brown has been around since 2009 and features Mike Montali (lead vocals/guitar), Jonathan Bonilla (lead guitar),Andrew Zehnal (drums), Adam Bock (keyboard/vocals) , and Brian Courage (bass). A truly definitive American Rock band, they have supported such acts as The Zombies, Jackie Greene, Jesse Malin and The Heartless Bastards on tours nationally and internationally. Don Dilego, is an American singer/songwriter/producer. Both acts are great friends who have worked together in many capacities

First up #DonDiLego. Self effacing and affable, Don’s multi-talents allow him to perform any song whether his or others at will and with excellence. His unique timber vocally adds tremendous clarity to his performance. #HollisBrown was first noticed by this blogger at the Pleasantville Music Festival earlier this year when they performed on the main stage in what turned out to be a record breaking event. When Mike, Jonathan and crew do these intimate settings they perform from their catalog but, also add a set to honor an artist they love. This time it was #TomPetty. Running through TP staples such as “Refugee”, “Don’t Do Me Like That” (DILego stepped up on vocals for this one) and “American Girl” certainly made icing that topped this terrific cake of an evening.

Kudos to #LiveatDrews for providing the space and atmosphere which made it a #nighttoremember. Please be sure to #follow these artists (and Live@Drew’s) on social media to keep up with current and future events. Feel free to #comment#share#suggest

CAAMP – Doc Robinson – Mercury Lounge NYC – 9-21-2016 – SOLDOUT!!!

CAAMP
Doc Robinson
Mercury Lounge
9-21-2016
#SOLDOUT!!!

Caamp’s tune “All The Debts I Owe” is number one on the official SpotifyMusic Matters playlist and with good reason. They are one of the hottest music duos touring the country right now. The Music Matters was turned on to #Caamp earlier this year when music curator/promoter Pamnation highly recommended these Columbus, Ohio based #indiefolk #footstomping#rockers. With this #LowerEastSide date firmly in the calendar for months now, this blogger also had the privilege of being joined by #Pamnation who earlier this afternoon on social media exclaimed “These guys! If you haven’t seen them yet you must. Their show gets you moving. Love them!”.Of course, when Pamnation talks, people obviously listen as the show (their first as headliners in NYC) was an official sellout.

First up for the evening were townmates turned tourmates #DocRobinson. Jonathan Elliott and Nick D’Andrea make up the duo that they self describe as backyard bbq breakup music. Their set consisted of everything from Donovan’s “Mellow Yellow”, to the pressing plant censored “Chattanooga”, to the suggestive “Ring of Love”. They were certainly well received by the packed house. Next up, our heroes #Caamp who are in real life Taylor Meier (guitar/vocals) and Evan Westfall (banjo/vocals). With the crowd roaring from the start they decimated the audience with favorites like “Hey Joe”, new tunes such as “Common Man” (for which the crowd went wild! Amazing considering it was the first time we all heard it) and closed with our favorite “All The Debts I Owe”. Of course the packed house felt they were owed more as they refused to let the duo leave the stage area cheering them back for a raucous encore. Caamp promised us a new album very soon and we will hold them to the fire on that.

While #TheMercuryLounge is one of the finest venues in NYC, this blogger sees them moving up to larger venues the next time around. They would certainly be favorites at major festivals as well. Be on the look out for both these Ohio twosomes. #Follow them on social media, on tour and please feel free to #comment and #share

Son Little – Doe Paoro – Fairfield Theatre Company – 9-19-2017

Son Little
Doe Paoro
Fairfield Theatre Company
9-19-2017

We received advance reports of musical excellence from last weekend’s Grand Point North festival through music curator/promoter Pamnationregarding Aaron Earl Livingston, better known by his stage persona #SonLittle.Direct from #Philly, influenced by rhythm & blues and soul, he’s also in tune with modern indie sounds which he shows by adding his own special flavor to the mix. With all this in mind, The Music Matters gave themselves no choice but to be at #FairfieldTheatreCompany‘s #StageOnelast evening for a most memorable night.

Up first was #DoePaoro, singer/songwriter originally from Syracuse, now based in Los Angeles. A wondrously exquisite voice, She performed a heartfelt set which included favorites like “Born Whole” from her 2012 release “Slow to Love” through her current single “Fading Into Black”. All of which was certainly well received by an appreciative audience.

Next up, headliner for the evening Son Little. The man had the ladies swooning with tunes like “O Me O My” and “Blue Magic” from his latest album “New Magic” which was just released last week. His 75 minute set so compelling and engaging. Thankfully at the urge of an exuberant audience he came out for three encore tunes. This blogger’s advice? See him now so as he grows into larger venues, you can share with fans you saw him then.

Please #follow both these artists on tour, and of course through social media. Feel free to #comment and #share your thoughts

Lilly Hiatt – Brian Dunne – The Evening Muse 9-9-2017

Visiting friends in Charlotte last week this blogger found himself thirsting for live music on a Saturday night. Looking through the local paper Creative Loafing Charlotte we noticed songstress #LillyHiatt on the bill at #TheEveningMuseThe Music Matters had been advised by music curator/promoter Pamnation that Lilly rocked Rhythm and Roots Festival the week before and should not be missed. So into the #noda area of Charlotte we roamed.

First up was #BrianDunne who’s album “Bug Fixes & Performance Improvements” is getting some SiriusXM Radio play. As coincidence it turns out Brian is from Th Music Matters root town of Brooklyn. Affable in person and accomplished as singer/songwriter he’s certainly a talent to keep an eye on. Next up, our beautiful hero Lilly Hiatt. Of strong voice and great presence she and her band rocked us through a set took us through a journey from her latest disc Trinity Lane as well as other favorites from her catalog. The title track from the album and the tune “The Night David Bowie Died” are now staples on the official Music Matters Spotify playlist.

#follow both acts on tour and of course on #socialmedia. Feel free to #comment#share and #suggest

Middle Kids – Ski Lodge – Music Hall of Williamsburg – 9-16-2017

Middle Kids
Ski Lodge
Music Hall of Williamsburg
9-16-2017

Middle Kids, a new group out of Sydney, Australia first came to the attention of The Music Matters earlier this year when we heard singer Hannah Joy perform the Car Seat Headrest tune “Fill in the Blank” exclusively for SiriusXM Radio as they announced their 2017 tour. More recently they were referred to us by music curator/promoter Pamnation who was excited by their performance at LouFest Music Festival and advised they were #cantmiss live. We were anxious as we ventured down to #musichallofwilliamsburg in Brooklyn, which is always a favorite venue of ours.

First up was #SkiLodge, experienced indie pop from NYC. Check out their record “Does It Bring You Down” . Next up, #fastrisingstars #MiddleKids . They are exuberant, exciting and any other adjective you can think of for positive musical energy. This blogger was impressed by the exploration of the sonic limitations of their instruments which were reminiscent of Sonic Youth to our ears. We look forward to visiting them again at this year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL). Pick up their debut EP and certainly #followthem live, on social media or wherever you enjoy and discover that universal language we call music.

KEVIN MORBY

Music Hall of Williamsburg
9-7-2017

#KevinMorby known originally as the bassist for Woods, first came to the attention of this blogger in Jan of 2012 when his band The Babies played a #historic show @ the K&K Super Buffet as it was created into a venue for the night by legendary #indierock promoter #ToddP . More recently he came to our attention again via music curator/promoter Pamnation who is a huge fan of his solo material. The Music Matters ventured in Brooklyn during the eve of September 7th to see first hand the live experience as we are huge fans of his latest release #CityMusic . The evening opened with a set from Los Angeles based songstress #ShannonLay . Her wonderfully melodic voice and beautiful strummings were the perfect warmup. Kevin and the band then took the stage to the packed house and simply wowed all who attended with rocking set containing many tunes from the new disc along with other fan favorites. Keep an eye on Shannon Lay, and definitely stay immersed in the music of Kevin Morby online and live.

Mishti – Weight of My Heart

Mishti
Weight of My Heart

Today is a very special day for The Music Matters . This blogger has been following the career of singer/songstress Mishti for some time now. In fact, it’s this type of artist which inspires us to exist. Her natural yet unique mix of many vocal greats makes her #music a #mustlisten. We are celebrating today as the official release date of Mishti’s very first commercial recording and it’s addition to our official Spotify playlist. Produced by internationally respected musician Alex Nolan, the tune is catchy, well written, along with outstanding pop quality. It’s available for streaming, downloading, listening at your favorite musical outlets. We would love to hear your #feedback. Please #comment#share, most of all #enjoy!

Megan Talay, while still quite young is quite a seasoned performer. On Saturday August 26th in NYC she put tremendous effort not in just displaying her musical talents but, promotional expertise as well. She made a conscious decision Summer should not end and created a party to celebrate. Literally #takingittothestreets she was all over NYC to promote the event. Her efforts paid off as an #overpacked house saw her deliver 40 minutes of her special brand of straightforward pop punk. The energy so great, this blogger couldn’t get a clean camera shot with all the folks having fun. She’s pictured here with two ardent fans as they started partying outside the venue before the set began. The Music Matters will be keeping a watchful eye as she continues to rise the ladder of success

The Marcus King Band – Wild Adriatic – Wonder Bar – 8-30-2017

The Marcus King Band
Wild Adriatic
Wonder Bar
8-30-2017

When music maven promoter/curator Pamnation talks, The Music Matterslistens, as we all should when looking for the finest in up and coming artists. Our journey last Wed brought us down to the Jersey Shore, in the land of Springsteen to The Wonder Bar. When showtime began, we were reminded of the opening line of Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting ” as it was “packed pretty tight in here tonight”. Followers of this blog well recognize the excellence of Wild Adriatic as they’ve been mentioned many times. This evening as warm up for the sold out performance was no exception for them with their unique blend of Classic Rock and Soul. Their latest album “Feel” should be a regular on your turntable and streaming playlists.

Up next was Fantasy Records recording artists, The Marcus King Band. In addition to Marcus on vocals and guitar the band features Jack Ryan(Drums),Stephen Campbell(bass),Justin Johnson (Trumpet/Trombone/Background Vocals/Tambourine) Matt Jennings(Organ/Keyboards), with Dean Mitchell (Saxophone). Kudos to Warren Haynes for recognizing Marcus early. At the age of 21 he is an absolute STAR. You see it in his eyes, the smile, the soul in his playing. Everything rings with sincerity as he gives of himself to the audience using his unique blend of Blues and Rock musings. His band is AAA+++ and they proved it with first rate improvisational jamming throughout their 90 minute set. Those there will certainly remember the evening well as it’s very likely this band will be on much larger stages in the very near future

Andy Suzuki & The Method
14th St Union Square Station NYC
Pop Up Show 8-29-2017

NYC subway riders had quite a treat if they happened to be using the Union Square Station last night. Andy Suzuki & The Method ( feat Andy Suzuki, Kozza Babumba and cast) wowed passersby with quality entertainment rarely seen even in talent rich New York. Some may call it #busking, some #streetentertainment . We call it, bringing the art to the people. In a unique promotional event for their upcoming performance at Mercury Lounge Sept 26th, the band ran non stop through two hours of song, dance and rocking the crowd. The personality plus filled Suzuki led the band through original tunes from their album “The Glass Hour” as well as some Suzuki Methodized standards such as “Let it Be” and “American Woman”. This blogger was clued into the event by music curator/promoter Pamnation . The Music Matters will no doubt be keeping a watchful eye on this future pop/soul influenced group as they take it #tothetop . Please #follow them on social media (they’re super responsive). Feel free to #comment here and#share with your friends.

Karma Darwin seized the opportunity by wowing them with tasteful originals blended with covers such as Pink Floyd’s “Breathe”, Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets” performed in #Darwinstyle. WXPK FM radio better known as The Peak presented a trio of talent to a packed house this past Friday at Garcia’s in Port Chester. MC’d by popular DJ/Radio personality Chris Rodriguez A/K/A Coach, it was certainty an evening to remember. Normally a trio but for this even performing as a duo, the night opened with the fine guitar picking songsters from Brooklyn, Bad Faces. Next up, a talented up and comer Dylan Rockoff from Boston, MA. His unique phrasing and songwriting skills will certainly take him to the next level. His version of the Jeff Buckley standard Hallelujah an absolute highlight. Headliners for the event were pride of Bridgeport CT’s own The Alternative Routes. Self described as Rock/Alternative their core members are Tim Warren (vocals), Eric Donnelly (guitar), Kurt Leon (drums), Ian Tait (bass) and Taryn Chory (vocals). This blogger also sees them as strong Americana, as evidenced in the true story tearjerker Somewhere in America. The band roared through a 90 minute set all performed with solid rhythm, harmonious energy and were genuinely heartfelt by an appreciative audience . Please keep a watchful eye out and certainly follow these fine groups on social media/tour. Kudos to music curator Pamnation for inviting The Music Matters to this event.

The Music Maters New Music Discovery. Miracle Glass Company

The Music Matters New Music Discovery.
Miracle Glass Company

When Pamnation talks The Music Matters listens when it comes to new music discoveries. So we went looking for T.R.O.U.B.L.E today and we found it with cosmic rockers VoxBox Records recording artists Miracle Glass Company. This Scottish trio consists of William Douglas (vocals / bass), Andy Duncan (vocals / drums) and Austen George (vocals / guitar). They began their musical quest in 2014 out of common love to deliver the melodic energy they shared together and the desire to bring that to appreciative audiences. They’ve certainly found that in their home of Scotland. It’s rapidly spreading throughout the UK as well. The Music Matters is hoping they will be in the US sooner than later. Please enjoy this video which is the fourth single from their debut album MGC 1.

Dead Tooth, Two Man Giant Squid, Le Big Zero at Pet Shop in Jersey City

Two days ago this guy had so much pain that one arm was in a sling, the hand on the other arm in a brace. All I could think about was “ oh no, I’m going miss the Thursday show at @petshopjc with @dead_t00th , @twomangiantsquid and @lebigzero . “Luckily with some magic meds my symptoms cleared up I was ready to rock. First up was #LeBigZero. I wasn’t familiar with them, but the crowd was. Hootin’ and hollering’ their whole set. Next up was Brooklyn quintet #TwoManGiantSquid. Last time I saw them was at a capacity crowd at Brooklyn’s @babysallright . They didn’t disappoint then, and rocked just as hard if not harder tonight. Last up was #DeadTooth whom I’ve seen numerous times including to a #soldout crowd at @boweryballroom . The Zach led 5 piece had the raucous crowd moshin’ and boopin’ so hard I thought the place would explode! Of note, DJ Tom Gallo spun incredible vintage New Wave. I left so satisfied I couldn’t listen to radio on the way home. It couldn’t have been better than what I heard and saw this past evening. Apologies for the bad photos. With all the rockin’ it was hard to keep a steady hand.https://www.instagram.com/p/C2jXioNMbgG/?igsh=MXE2bGd1eHFuNTc2cw==

Pleasantville Music Festival 2018
July 14th, 2018

This is the time of the year The Music Matters loves the most. For this blogger, #festivalseason is our #holidayseason. None more prominent or enjoyable than the #PleasanvilleMusicFestival which has a stage dedicated to the #musiccurations of promoter #Pamnation.

The festivities begin with the female fronted, hard rocking sounds of #battleofthebands winners Gilbert – the band. The day moves forward to Alternative Rockers Friends At The Falls who are from Mahopac. Next up will be Loose Buttons. Veterans of the NYC scene for years, we caught them this past March at ALPHAVILLE. and were impressed by their energy and songwriting.

The day heats up as Late Night Episode hits the stage. This blogger, having seen them twice this past year (Garcia’s and The Capitol Theatre) looks forward to seeing these rockers from Scarsdale and the showmanship/tunesmith abilities they bring. Following them will be a band that mixes R&B,Hip Hop and Rock – Juice. We were lucky enough to catch them at #TheCapitolTheater (The same show with #LateNighEpisode as they supported last year’s #PamnationPartyStage headliners Ripe).

Wrapping up the festivities we are anxious to see Funk ‘n Hop masters Harsh Armadillo. Noon to Nine come see the latest in #NewMusicFinds.
