Hey Stamford Food Festival
August 26th, 2017

Karma Darwin is an Indie/Rock/Folk/Reggae foursome based in Brewster NY. Members are Drew Stubbs-Stroud (vocals/guitar),Alex Peterson (vocals/guitar) John Newton (vocals/bass) and Ryan Lowry drums & Percussion They came to the attention of The Music Matters first through this blogger’s daughter, their excellence confirmed by music curator/promoter Pamnation . The opportunity to share the love of music and great food presented itself so, off we went to Stamford. A stunning Connecticut day and huge hungry yet festive crowd attended this annual event. Karma Darwin seized the opportunity by wowing them with tasteful originals blended with covers such as Pink Floyd’s “Breathe”, Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets” performed in #Darwinstyle. After the show we had a brief chance to speak with vocalist/guitarist Drew Stubbs-Stroud who mentioned the band is working regularly and excited about new tunes to be recorded/released. Please follow this group on social media and on tour.

WXPK FM radio better known as The Peak presented a trio of talent to a packed house this past Friday at Garcia’s in Port Chester. MC’d by popular DJ/Radio personality Chris Rodriguez A/K/A Coach, it was certainty an evening to remember. Normally a trio but for this even performing as a duo, the night opened with the fine guitar picking songsters from Brooklyn, Bad Faces. Next up, a talented up and comer Dylan Rockoff from Boston, MA. His unique phrasing and songwriting skills will certainly take him to the next level. His version of the Jeff Buckley standard Hallelujah an absolute highlight. Headliners for the event were pride of Bridgeport CT’s own The Alternative Routes. Self described as Rock/Alternative their core members are Tim Warren (vocals), Eric Donnelly (guitar), Kurt Leon (drums), Ian Tait (bass) and Taryn Chory (vocals). This blogger also sees them as strong Americana, as evidenced in the true story tearjerker Somewhere in America. The band roared through a 90 minute set all performed with solid rhythm, harmonious energy and were genuinely heartfelt by an appreciative audience . Please keep a watchful eye out and certainly follow these fine groups on social media/tour. Kudos to music curator Pamnation for inviting The Music Matters to this event.

The Music Maters New Music Discovery. Miracle Glass Company

The Music Matters New Music Discovery.
Miracle Glass Company

When Pamnation talks The Music Matters listens when it comes to new music discoveries. So we went looking for T.R.O.U.B.L.E today and we found it with cosmic rockers VoxBox Records recording artists Miracle Glass Company. This Scottish trio consists of William Douglas (vocals / bass), Andy Duncan (vocals / drums) and Austen George (vocals / guitar). They began their musical quest in 2014 out of common love to deliver the melodic energy they shared together and the desire to bring that to appreciative audiences. They’ve certainly found that in their home of Scotland. It’s rapidly spreading throughout the UK as well. The Music Matters is hoping they will be in the US sooner than later. Please enjoy this video which is the fourth single from their debut album MGC 1.

J Roddy Walston and the Business – Music Hall of Williamsburg – 8-22-2017

J Roddy Walston and the Business
Music Hall of Williamsburg
8-22-2017

When music curator/promoter Pamnation recommended ATO Records artist J Roddy Walston we were advised they ROCKED live. How hard? The Music Matters ventured to one of their favorite venues in Brooklyn to see for themselves. The band consisting of J Roddy Walston (piano, guitar, lead vocals) joined by Billy C Gordon (guitar), Steve “the sleeve” Colmus (drums) and Logan Davis (bass) opened the set with one of The Music Matters favs “Same Days” and it only went uphill from there. Rolling through an hour long set to a packed house, the fans demanded more. The gang delivered by treating us to additional half hour of goodies as they hit hard. Especially on the insisted on by the crowd finale “Heavy Bells”, which they turned into a jam that could have been a concert by itself. Missing out on these guys is a mistake in the eyes of The Music Matters . Make sure you follow them on tour and on social media.

LIC Landing by COFFEED
8-21-2017

On a simply wonderful Monday afternoon in LIC preceding the #solareclipse2017The Music Matters was able to treat themselves to a unique free event. Using his musical musings to promote Krave and their delectable edible products (which all attendees were able to sample) was none other than Garret Dutton, better known to us as G Love, leader of G. Love & Special Sauce, Entertaining us with favorites from his prolific catalog known for it’s unique blend of Alternative, Blues and Hip Hop, he responded to a heartily demanded encore with an impassioned medley that featured Little Walter’s My Baby (A Music Matters fav).

Special kudos and thanks to music curator Pamnation for cluing this blogger to the event.

Sunshine Riot at Lantern Hall Brooklyn NY 8-18-2017

The Music Matters went to Brooklyn, to see a band from Boston (say that three times fast). Recommended by music promoter/curator Pamnationthese guys did not disappoint. They rock hard with the following personnel Jonny O. – rhythm guitar /vocals with Steven Beats – drums,Jeffrey Sullivan – bass/ vocals and Mark Tetreault – lead guitar. Powerful, yet playful they stormed through their set in what some have described as Johnny Cash meets Kurt Cobain. This blogger heard that and everything in between. The Music Matters urges all lovers of Country/Rock/Blues/Punk to follow them on social media, see them on tour, invite them into your home for beers and to rock your town accordingly

The Music Matters was beyond thrilled to attend this triple header of live music last evening. Garcia’s as part of the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY was appropriately crowded with numerous fans anxiously awaiting to see these three bands when we arrived. First up was the hard rocking RIIZA. The band features Ari Perakis on vocals,Justin Giacchetto on guitar, Sean LeVeille on Drums with Wilson Yarnall on bass. Young, and filled with energy, the foursome fresh off their performance at the 2017 Pleasantville Music Festival ‘s main stage, certainly set the bar for the evening. Well schooled in Classic Rock they displayed intense musicianship and showed optimism for a bright future ahead.

Next up, new to The Music Matter’s ears were pride of Nashville, The Vegabonds. This quintet features Daniel Allen on vocals/guitar, Bryan Harris on drums., Richard Forehand on guitar/slide/pedal steel/vocals, Paul Bruens on bass with Beau Cooper on keys/vocals. The Vegabonds are veterans of three European tours and have also recorded three full length albums. While the band describes themselves as “New South Rock” one could certainly say they are true Americana and definitely Rock & Roll. A highlight for this blogger was their cover of The Charlie Daniels Band Long Haired Country Boy.

Last up, bringing the already hot stage to a fiery cauldron were established Music Matters favorites Wild Adriatic (photo credit Jason B).The group features Travis Gray on vocals/guitar Rich Derbyshire on bass with Mateo Vosganian on drums. Brought to the attention of The Music Matters earlier this year by music promoter/curator Pamnation this trio is a perfect blend of of Rock & Soul. To fully comprehend their unique blend, we highly recommend their latest album “Feel” as a staple for your turntable and a must on your Spotify playlist. The undeniable stage appeal of this band make them a must see on tour.

Welshly Arms
Rockwood Music Hall NYC
August 15th 2017

The Music Matters was on a dual assignment last evening (more on that later this week). First stop, Rockwood Music Hall in NYC to see the quickly becoming #Legendary Welshly Arms. This #rockandroll outfit out of Cleveland, OH features Sam Getz- on guitar, lead vocal duties, Brett Lindemann manning the keys/vocals, Jimmy Weaver grooving the bass/vocals with Mikey Gould holding down that beat on the drums. Rounding out this awesome sextet are Bri and Jon Bryant- with their deliciously harmonic vocals.Their set included greatness we’ve learned to expect from their existing catalog, plus some new tunes we hope to hear recorded real soon. Brought to the attention of The Music Matters by #livemusic curator/promoter Pamnation this past May, we looking forward to watching this group #risetothetop #follow them on #socialmedia and of course #ontour. Please view this brief clip of Love in a Minor Key, which we love in a major way

If folks find their songs familar it’s no surprise. Many of their tunes have been licensed in film, sports and commercials. The Cleveland Indians have certainly embraced “Dirty Work” in commercials, Legendary has been used numerous times including a hype video for the Indians current baseball season, Miller Lite ads. Even Hulu, the NFL and Indian Motorcycles have embraced the tune. Most cool to us was their cover of Sam and Dave’s “Hold On I’m Coming” when Quentin Tarantino cleverly had it used for the traller for the movie The Hateful Eight.

The Music Matters had been anxiously awaiting the return of Leopold and his Fiction to NY ever since the rumors of their then upcoming tour with She Wants Revenge and Bush were going around. Introduced to the band through music promoter/curator Pamnation this evening did not disappoint. Austin based and led by Dan Leopold, the band fuses rock, blues, folk and Motown with a unique flavor. This quartet mainly performing tunes from their latest release Darling Destroyer such as “Cowboy” and “I’m Caving In” has established itself firmly in the wheelhouse of The Music Matters musical tastes. We will be keeping a close eye on them as they rise the ladder to stardom.

Brooklyn 8-8-2017

The Music Matters wandered into Brooklyn last night on the referral of music curator/promoter Pamnation to see the New York based Del Water Gap at one of our favorite NYC venues Baby’s All Right. The band consists of S. Holden Jaffe (lead vocals, guitar), Charlie Schlinkert (drums), Will Evans (bass, vocals), and Kit Conway (guitar). Performing without the services of guitarist Kit, who had a medical emergency (we wish him quick recovery) the band tore through an 8 song set which featured staples such as Vanessa, and High Tops (which singer S. Holden Jaffe dedicated to a friend for introducing him to the recently passed Glen Campbell). They also showcased some newer tunes as well. The Music Matters will be keeping a close eye on this group to follow their path to success.
