#SOLDOUT!!!

Caamp’s tune “All The Debts I Owe” is number one on the official SpotifyMusic Matters playlist and with good reason. They are one of the hottest music duos touring the country right now. The Music Matters was turned on to #Caamp earlier this year when music curator/promoter Pamnation highly recommended these Columbus, Ohio based #indiefolk #footstomping#rockers. With this #LowerEastSide date firmly in the calendar for months now, this blogger also had the privilege of being joined by #Pamnation who earlier this afternoon on social media exclaimed “These guys! If you haven’t seen them yet you must. Their show gets you moving. Love them!”.Of course, when Pamnation talks, people obviously listen as the show (their first as headliners in NYC) was an official sellout.

First up for the evening were townmates turned tourmates #DocRobinson. Jonathan Elliott and Nick D’Andrea make up the duo that they self describe as backyard bbq breakup music. Their set consisted of everything from Donovan’s “Mellow Yellow”, to the pressing plant censored “Chattanooga”, to the suggestive “Ring of Love”. They were certainly well received by the packed house. Next up, our heroes #Caamp who are in real life Taylor Meier (guitar/vocals) and Evan Westfall (banjo/vocals). With the crowd roaring from the start they decimated the audience with favorites like “Hey Joe”, new tunes such as “Common Man” (for which the crowd went wild! Amazing considering it was the first time we all heard it) and closed with our favorite “All The Debts I Owe”. Of course the packed house felt they were owed more as they refused to let the duo leave the stage area cheering them back for a raucous encore. Caamp promised us a new album very soon and we will hold them to the fire on that.

While #TheMercuryLounge is one of the finest venues in NYC, this blogger sees them moving up to larger venues the next time around. They would certainly be favorites at major festivals as well. Be on the look out for both these Ohio twosomes. #Follow them on social media, on tour and please feel free to #comment and #share

Son Little – Doe Paoro – Fairfield Theatre Company – 9-19-2017

Son Little
Doe Paoro
Fairfield Theatre Company
9-19-2017

We received advance reports of musical excellence from last weekend’s Grand Point North festival through music curator/promoter Pamnationregarding Aaron Earl Livingston, better known by his stage persona #SonLittle.Direct from #Philly, influenced by rhythm & blues and soul, he’s also in tune with modern indie sounds which he shows by adding his own special flavor to the mix. With all this in mind, The Music Matters gave themselves no choice but to be at #FairfieldTheatreCompany‘s #StageOnelast evening for a most memorable night.

Up first was #DoePaoro, singer/songwriter originally from Syracuse, now based in Los Angeles. A wondrously exquisite voice, She performed a heartfelt set which included favorites like “Born Whole” from her 2012 release “Slow to Love” through her current single “Fading Into Black”. All of which was certainly well received by an appreciative audience.

Next up, headliner for the evening Son Little. The man had the ladies swooning with tunes like “O Me O My” and “Blue Magic” from his latest album “New Magic” which was just released last week. His 75 minute set so compelling and engaging. Thankfully at the urge of an exuberant audience he came out for three encore tunes. This blogger’s advice? See him now so as he grows into larger venues, you can share with fans you saw him then.

Please #follow both these artists on tour, and of course through social media. Feel free to #comment and #share your thoughts

Visiting friends in Charlotte last week this blogger found himself thirsting for live music on a Saturday night. Looking through the local paper Creative Loafing Charlotte we noticed songstress #LillyHiatt on the bill at #TheEveningMuseThe Music Matters had been advised by music curator/promoter Pamnation that Lilly rocked Rhythm and Roots Festival the week before and should not be missed. So into the #noda area of Charlotte we roamed.

First up was #BrianDunne who’s album “Bug Fixes & Performance Improvements” is getting some SiriusXM Radio play. As coincidence it turns out Brian is from Th Music Matters root town of Brooklyn. Affable in person and accomplished as singer/songwriter he’s certainly a talent to keep an eye on. Next up, our beautiful hero Lilly Hiatt. Of strong voice and great presence she and her band rocked us through a set took us through a journey from her latest disc Trinity Lane as well as other favorites from her catalog. The title track from the album and the tune “The Night David Bowie Died” are now staples on the official Music Matters Spotify playlist.

#follow both acts on tour and of course on #socialmedia. Feel free to #comment#share and #suggest

Middle Kids – Ski Lodge – Music Hall of Williamsburg – 9-16-2017

Middle Kids, a new group out of Sydney, Australia first came to the attention of The Music Matters earlier this year when we heard singer Hannah Joy perform the Car Seat Headrest tune “Fill in the Blank” exclusively for SiriusXM Radio as they announced their 2017 tour. More recently they were referred to us by music curator/promoter Pamnation who was excited by their performance at LouFest Music Festival and advised they were #cantmiss live. We were anxious as we ventured down to #musichallofwilliamsburg in Brooklyn, which is always a favorite venue of ours.

First up was #SkiLodge, experienced indie pop from NYC. Check out their record “Does It Bring You Down” . Next up, #fastrisingstars #MiddleKids . They are exuberant, exciting and any other adjective you can think of for positive musical energy. This blogger was impressed by the exploration of the sonic limitations of their instruments which were reminiscent of Sonic Youth to our ears. We look forward to visiting them again at this year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL). Pick up their debut EP and certainly #followthem live, on social media or wherever you enjoy and discover that universal language we call music.

#Input and #comments always welcome

#KevinMorby known originally as the bassist for Woods, first came to the attention of this blogger in Jan of 2012 when his band The Babies played a #historic show @ the K&K Super Buffet as it was created into a venue for the night by legendary #indierock promoter #ToddP . More recently he came to our attention again via music curator/promoter Pamnation who is a huge fan of his solo material. The Music Matters ventured in Brooklyn during the eve of September 7th to see first hand the live experience as we are huge fans of his latest release #CityMusic . The evening opened with a set from Los Angeles based songstress #ShannonLay . Her wonderfully melodic voice and beautiful strummings were the perfect warmup. Kevin and the band then took the stage to the packed house and simply wowed all who attended with rocking set containing many tunes from the new disc along with other fan favorites. Keep an eye on Shannon Lay, and definitely stay immersed in the music of Kevin Morby online and live.

Megan Talay, while still quite young is quite a seasoned performer. On Saturday August 26th in NYC she put tremendous effort not in just displaying her musical talents but, promotional expertise as well. She made a conscious decision Summer should not end and created a party to celebrate. Literally #takingittothestreets she was all over NYC to promote the event. Her efforts paid off as an #overpacked house saw her deliver 40 minutes of her special brand of straightforward pop punk. The energy so great, this blogger couldn’t get a clean camera shot with all the folks having fun. She’s pictured here with two ardent fans as they started partying outside the venue before the set began. The Music Matters will be keeping a watchful eye as she continues to rise the ladder of success

The Marcus King Band – Wild Adriatic – Wonder Bar – 8-30-2017

The Marcus King Band
Wild Adriatic
Wonder Bar
8-30-2017

When music maven promoter/curator Pamnation talks, The Music Matterslistens, as we all should when looking for the finest in up and coming artists. Our journey last Wed brought us down to the Jersey Shore, in the land of Springsteen to The Wonder Bar. When showtime began, we were reminded of the opening line of Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting ” as it was “packed pretty tight in here tonight”. Followers of this blog well recognize the excellence of Wild Adriatic as they’ve been mentioned many times. This evening as warm up for the sold out performance was no exception for them with their unique blend of Classic Rock and Soul. Their latest album “Feel” should be a regular on your turntable and streaming playlists.

Up next was Fantasy Records recording artists, The Marcus King Band. In addition to Marcus on vocals and guitar the band features Jack Ryan(Drums),Stephen Campbell(bass),Justin Johnson (Trumpet/Trombone/Background Vocals/Tambourine) Matt Jennings(Organ/Keyboards), with Dean Mitchell (Saxophone). Kudos to Warren Haynes for recognizing Marcus early. At the age of 21 he is an absolute STAR. You see it in his eyes, the smile, the soul in his playing. Everything rings with sincerity as he gives of himself to the audience using his unique blend of Blues and Rock musings. His band is AAA+++ and they proved it with first rate improvisational jamming throughout their 90 minute set. Those there will certainly remember the evening well as it’s very likely this band will be on much larger stages in the very near future

Andy Suzuki & The Method – 14th St Union Square Station – NYC Pop Up Show 8-29-2017

Andy Suzuki & The Method
14th St Union Square Station NYC
Pop Up Show 8-29-2017

NYC subway riders had quite a treat if they happened to be using the Union Square Station last night. Andy Suzuki & The Method ( feat Andy Suzuki, Kozza Babumba and cast) wowed passersby with quality entertainment rarely seen even in talent rich New York. Some may call it #busking, some #streetentertainment . We call it, bringing the art to the people. In a unique promotional event for their upcoming performance at Mercury Lounge Sept 26th, the band ran non stop through two hours of song, dance and rocking the crowd. The personality plus filled Suzuki led the band through original tunes from their album “The Glass Hour” as well as some Suzuki Methodized standards such as “Let it Be” and “American Woman”. This blogger was clued into the event by music curator/promoter Pamnation . The Music Matters will no doubt be keeping a watchful eye on this future pop/soul influenced group as they take it #tothetop . Please #follow them on social media (they’re super responsive). Feel free to #comment here and#share with your friends.
