Big Thief @ BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival in Brooklyn, NY 7-20-2017

Big Thief @ BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival in Brooklyn, NY 7-20-2017

On referral from Pamnation , The Music Matters has been following Brooklyn Indie Rockers Big Thief. On a beautiful evening in Prospect Park, the band did not disappoint. All part of the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn Festival they were billed as openers with Hop Along to support Conor Oberst. As seen in this brief clip of their opening segment they performed their latest single Mythological Beauty. You can feel the richness of Adrianne Lenker’s voice and the distinct arpeggios of Buck Meek’s guitar. This coupled with solid backing of Max Oleartchik on bass, and James Krivchenia on drums made for perfect counterpoint. #follow them #ontour and on their site http://www.bigthief.net/ to learn more about this intriguing group.

Wild Child – Live @ The Knitting Factory Brooklyn 7-17-2017

Based on an enthusiastic recommendation from music promoter/curator Pamnation The Music Matters attended a Pop Up show from American Indie Pop Rockers Wild Child .at Knitting Factory Brooklyn last evening. With little notice their numerous fans filled the venue with smiles, claps and yells as the band stormed through old, new, borrowed and blue material. The marriage between band and fans solid, the evening ended with lead singers Alexander and Kelsey literally at one with the audience. Looking for live music? Want to know where the party’s at? Look no further than a Wild Child concert. New album due this fall

Giving back to those who give to us. A Music Matters Special Report

Gary Schwartz, one of the premiere professional drummers in the Hudson Valley of NY suffered neck and wrist injuries in an automobile accident returning from a Delaware performance in early June. Gary’s career is storied and colorful. His musical history goes back to the legendary NYC music scene in the 70s and 80s, Many live performances and recordings since then all led to the respect his has today in the industry . Due to this accident, Gary will in all probability not be able to work for the better part of a year. As most of you know, musicians generally aren’t able to collect insurance monies for inability to work in situations like this. Of course Gary is much too proud to ask, but our local music community in Westchester and The Music Matters are asking. Please find it in your hearts to contribute to a man who’s given so much to us. It’s time to give what we can back. . There will be a benefit given for him today at Lucy’s in Pleasantville from 3-10PM. For those who cannot attend, please take a look at the link below and give what you can. Every dollar helps Thank you.

Ula Ruth – Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 – July 12th 2017

Ula Ruth is a four piece, Brooklyn based Indie Rock band. Members are vocalist Nic James. guitarist Andrew LeCoche, bassist Kevin Clymer and drummer Tom Cordell. The Music Matters checked them out last night at Rockwood Music Hall on the referral of Pamnation. Upon listening, you hear the super indie influences of Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys. The rhythm section drives the group like Adam and Larry of U2. Superb song craftsmanship, excellent execution and timing on their tunes. They are a band on the rise.

The Music Matters Special Talent Discovery Pleasantville Music Fesitval 2017

In what the Pleasantville Music Festival called the Chill Tent (aptly covered, and yes VERY cool), #themusicmatters made a #talentdiscovery this past Saturday during the annual festival. Please enjoy this video of Ghost Millionaires original song Hallelujah. Usually a full band, at this event they performed as a duo with Mishti and Mani Cregan handling guitar and vocal duties. We enjoyed them immensely and hope to see and learn more about them in the future. Vid cred to #supercooldude Drew Bordeaux

A Special Report by The Music Matters Pleasantville Music Festival 2017

Right #inthebackyard of #themusicmatters on July 8th 2017, the 13th annual Pleasantville Music Festival took place. In what we believe to be a #recordsetting attendance for the event, 18 bands performed on three stages. There was a main stage, The Pamnation Party stage and a Chill tent. All the stages featured everything from local Battle of the Bands winners, to regional and international touring acts.During the Blues Traveler set, in a “You Had To Be There” moment, Vernon Reid, who’s band Living Colour had just blew away the thousands in attendance joined John Hopper and the gang on stage. In addition to the music, the festival grounds were covered with an incredible selection of all types of vendors plus fun and excitement for the children. Refusing to let the night end, many attended the after party hosted by Pamnation at Lucy’s. Please enjoy the pictures, as we look forward to next years fest which promises to be bigger and better (if that’s possible) pic credits to Jim Forman, Elena Robustelli and others.
