The Boathouse in Ossining, NY

Self proclaimed leaders of the Space Aquarium genre, Indigo Kingperformed to a packed house at The Boathouse last evening. Called back for no less than three encores, the band consists of four members. Liam Houghtaling, Josh Braunstein and, Faiz Lone, switch between guitar, vocal and drum duties while Danny Annibale holds everything down on the Rickenbacker bass. Performing tunes from their debut album Cloud Neon among others, the band (literally and figuratively) blew a fuse during their finale which included a brilliant cover of Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out”. The group has performed key shows at famed venues such as Arlene’s GroceryGarcia’s in addition to being a battle of the bands winner which gained them a spot in the prestigious Pleasantville Music Festival of 2016. The Music Matters will be following their future progress.

The Wild Reeds Madison Square Park August 2nd, 2017

The Beatles proclaimed in their cover of the Bradford/Gordy classic Money – “The best things in life are free!”. That statement rang true last night at Madison Square Park when The Wild Reeds gave a free performance as part of the summer’s 2017 music series. In the middle of a nationwide tour to support their 2017 Dualtone Music Group release “The World We Built”, the group’s unique style of interweaving harmonies was in full effect throughout the set. For those who missed it, no fear. Promised last evening was a return trip to the Big Apple in November. Kudos (as always) to Pamnation for bringing this fine folk group to the attention of The Music Matters.

L.A. Salami Rockwood Music Hall 7-31-2017

Fresh off his dominating performance at this past weekend’s Newport Folk Festival, last evening The Music Matters had the extreme pleasure of attending a NYC appearance at Rockwood Music Hall by London Folk artist L.A. Salami . First brought to our attention several months ago by promoter/curator Pamnation we anxiously awaited a local show and were not disappointed. One need not look further than his tune The City Nowadays to hear a story that is relevant, compelling, and told with superior wit .After the show, L.A. Salami was gracious enough to take the time with numerous fans in attendance to meet and greet. Kind, humble, talented. Take that in any order you please. The Music Matters Looks forward to return engagements and future recordings of this star on the rise.

The Sirs – Rockwood Music Hall NYC 7-28-2017

The Music Matters ventured out to Rockwood Music Hall last evening to see one of their favorite new bands Sir Cadian Rhythm only to end up finding out it was the premiere show of The Sirs. First brought to our attention by music curator/promoter Pamnation , the band still contains the same personnel, and delivers the same exhilarating performance. As lead vocalist Jack Weppler explained “If we had a dollar for every time a venue misspelled the name…” With new recordings on the horizon, and single “Not Quite Done Yet” to be featured in the video game #NASCAR Heat 2 on #PS4 and #XboxOne, The Music Matters is quite Sir-tain the new name will be spelled correctly on many a major music venue marquis. Please check out this video clip from yesterday of the the talent and excitement that is unmistakably The Sirs.

Sunflower Bean – Burger Records Beach Bash II – 7-22-2017

Sunflower Bean Burger Records Beach Bash II on the beach at Coney Island !

The Music Matters took a trip into their old stomping grounds of Brooklyn last night to explore from one of the most exciting young bands on the indie scene today. Sunflower Bean ripped through their set in what most describe as a Psychedelia Punk fashion.Singer Julia Cumming is not only stunning but has a beautiful voice, and lock down bass style which fits in with Jacob Farber’s solid drumming. Nick Kilven’s ringing arpeggios and equally melodic vocals round out this trio. We look forward to watching this band grow. #follow them on tour with #thepixiescoming up. The Music Maters would love to see them do a solo date in our home of Westchester NY sooner rather than later
